Supporting sanctuaries and rescues
For animal sanctuaries and rescues, loss is a daily occurrence. There is the worry of an animal acting not-quite-right or seeing our beloved friends decline as they age. Then there are the many, many treatment decisions and finally…the decision to say a merciful and loving goodbye. Sometimes there are few if any moments to stop, process the loss and be with the grief because there are always others to tend to, plus feeding, mucking and a million things to take care of.
There are ways that an end-of-life companion can support a sanctuary or rescue to intentionally stop and make space to acknowledge a loss and to be with the grief they may be feeling.
Are there staff, fosters or volunteers who could use some extra support processing the grief and loss they regularly experience? Would you as a family like to create a ceremony or ritual to take time to acknowledge the communal losses you have undergone on a yearly or more regular basis, where everyone could just get together, stop, and allow your hearts to be together? I’m happy to speak with you about what feels right for you and your organization.
